Insights from Enlit Europe – How AI Is Shaping the Future of Energy & Inspection

Our KTP Data Scientist, Urmila was selected as one of 400 students and young professionals for the Future Energy Workforce programme at Enlit Europe 2025. This initiative specifically targets next-generation talent in the energy sector, providing participants with exclusive access to cutting-edge technologies, industry leaders, and career development opportunities.

As a data scientist at AISUS, specialising in deep learning for offshore inspection, Urmila’s application aligned well with the programme’s focus on digital transformation and AI applications in energy. It was a brilliant opportunity for not only personal development but to see where AISUS fits within the broader industry.

The conference in Bilbao ran from 18-20 November and was focused on decarbonisation and digitalisation, with AI taking centre stage. Urmila spent most of her time at the AI Hub, where the emphasis was very much on moving beyond “hype” to actual implementation and deployment.

The exhibition floor was absolutely packed—clearly AI in energy is the hot topic right now – Urmila Gurung

How Urmila’s Insights Validate AISUS’ Strategy

Urmila’s time at Enlit confirmed that AISUS is investing in the right technologies. We are no longer just ‘inspection services’ but continuous asset intelligence. Key takeaways included:

Digital Twins Are Becoming Essential

Operators want living, evolving 3D models – not static reports. AISUS’ high-quality point clouds and mesh datasets are already forming the foundation for such digital twins.

AI-Driven Anomaly Detection is a Market Expectation

The industry is moving toward AI systems that learn normal behaviour and automatically flag abnormalities. This validates AISUS’ push towards “smart inspection” capabilities that speed up reviews and improve accuracy.

Predictive Maintenance Is the New Standard

Presenters consistently favoured condition-based, data-led intervention over scheduled maintenance. With AISUS’ rich historical inspection data, the company is well positioned to forecast corrosion and identify early failure indicators.

Edge AI is Ready and Perfect for Offshore

Running models directly on local sensors is now achievable. For AISUS, this opens up opportunities to process imagery offshore and transmit only anomalies, ideal for environments with limited bandwidth.

Strong Market Momentum for Inspection Start-ups

Investor appetite for AI-enhanced inspection and predictive maintenance technologies was evident. AISUS’ value proposition fits directly into this rapidly expanding market.

Data Quality is Critical

As multiple speakers emphasised: high-quality data underpins everything. AISUS’ precise laser scans, ultrasonic data, and imaging give the company a significant competitive advantage.

Explainability Builds Trust

Regulators and operators want AI they can understand – not black boxes. Transparent, explainable outputs will be essential for the offshore sector.

Europe is Backing Industry-Specific AI

The EU’s focus on sector-targeted AI development creates strong opportunities for specialists like AISUS.

A Clear Message: AI is Now Essential Infrastructure

The overarching theme of Enlit Europe was unmistakable: the question is no longer “Can AI be used?” but “How do we scale it?” For AISUS, the event underscored that the company is not only aligned with industry trends but already building the tools operators will depend on in the coming years.

Urmila’s reflections from the event highlight that AISUS’ combination of advanced inspection technology, AI research, and domain expertise puts the company in prime position to lead the next generation of intelligent asset integrity solutions.
