Internal Cleaning: Multiple 20″ I-Tubes in the Gulf of Mexico

Overview

AISUS successfully conducted an internal cleaning of multiple 20” I-Tube FFL2 units on a US platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The primary goal was to remove the accumulated marine growth, ensuring smooth passage of a drift tool through the I-Tube for future operations.

Requirement

The client urgently requested AISUS’ assistance, and we delivered impressively, especially given the international scope of the project. Thick marine growth within the I-Tube had delayed the client’s drift tool operations, causing friction and snagging, as well as damaging the tooling. The 20″ I-Tube consisted of three sections each 1.5m long, separated by two 34m water gaps. AISUS had to develop a solution to safely navigate the cleaning tool through these cut-out water gaps.

Solution

AISUS deployed the ‘SIRIUS’ tool, which carried an Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) water jetting unit internally through the I-Tubes. The team deployed the tool safely from the top deck, manoeuvring it through the 34m cut-out gaps to clean the top, middle, and lower sections of the 1.5m I-Tubes. The UHP water jetting unit effectively removed the ‘thick and hard’ marine growth.

Results

AISUS mobilised this project in impressively quick time for an international operation. Within 7 days, the project was agreed with the client, complete with supporting proposals and drawings. The AISUS team was promptly flown from the UK to New Orleans, ready to execute the task. The entire work scope was completed within 6 days, demonstrating AISUS’ efficiency in meeting the client’s expectations. The cleaning removed all marine growth from the I-Tubes, restoring them to their parent material and extending into the upper and lower bellmouths. Post-cleaning inspections revealed a smooth surface with no anomalies. A centraliser frame set to 19.5” was successfully lowered through the top, middle, and lower I-Tubes, confirming that the internal space met the client’s requirements without any snagging or friction.

Zero Visibility – Internal Visual & Ultrasonic Inspection of J-Tubes

Overview AISUS mobilised to an offshore platform in Australia to carry out internal inspections on two J-tubes, with the objective of assessing the extent of external wall loss. The collected data was used to evaluate the condition of the platform legs by correlating it with the observed J-tube external wall corrosion. The platform legs are […]
