Internal Visual and 98% gauge plate inspection of I-Tubes

Overview

AISUS carried out an internal visual and gauge plate inspection of three I-Tubes on an FPSO, mobilised to Nigeria, Africa.  This client needed AISUS expertise and technology to ensure feasibility and no disruptions to the pull through of subsea umbilicals at a 98% internal diameter.

Requirement

An Initial visual inspection was carried out to assess the cleanliness of the I-Tube to ensure there were no obstructions or heavy marine life that could obstruct any tooling that was to be deployed into the I-Tube. This was carried out for the entire length, recording visible anomalies, the condition and elevations of the circumferential welds and any remaining coating. Enabling a full and detailed Remote Visual Inspection and internal diameter measurement with gauge plates.

Challenges

  • Due to kinks within the I-Tubes care was to be taken when passing through, ensuring the tooling doesn’t snag.
  • Gauge Plates have the potential to become stuck during inspection.

Results

Our experienced field engineers ensured the centraliser system was able to free run down the entire length of the I-Tubes and that there was no snagging when passing through.

During the initial visual inspection, it was confirmed by the client that HP water jetting would not be required as there was minimal marine fouling recorded.

The 98%-gauge plate successfully passed through the I-Tube with no signs of bending/damage to any of the gauge plate fins. This enabled the client to go ahead with the pulling through of the subsea umbilicals.

Remote Visual Inspection revealed the I-Tube coating appears to still be well bonded with minimal signs of coating breakdown. No through wall features observed throughout the entire length of the I-Tube.

Benefits

Integrated Service: All tasks completed within a single service.

Cost-Effective: Offering real-time data into the I-Tubes current condition enabled informed decision making on the pull through of subsea umbilicals

Increased Safety: Fully remote inspection eliminated the need for a large team.

Expert Team: Delivered precise and reliable results, provided personalised support to maintain high standards, quality, and safety

Overview AISUS delivered internal visual, cleaning, and ultrasonic thickness (UT) inspection of a seawater lift caisson on an offshore platform in the Dutch Sector. The project highlighted AISUS’ ability to mobilise at short notice to global locations. The inspection equipment was requested on a Thursday, mobilised by the following Tuesday, and the AISUS team was […]

Internal Visual Inspection & Fluid Sample Collection within a Riser Caisson

Overview AISUS was engaged on a North Sea offshore platform to carry out internal visual inspection and fluid sample collection through a 3” standpipe within a riser caisson. A single mobilisation covering both inspection for anomalies and fluid sampling delivered added value to the client without the need for additional mobilisations. Requirement The client required […]

Zero Visibility – Internal Visual & Ultrasonic Inspection of J-Tubes

Overview AISUS mobilised to an offshore platform in Australia to carry out internal inspections on two J-tubes, with the objective of assessing the extent of external wall loss. The collected data was used to evaluate the condition of the platform legs by correlating it with the observed J-tube external wall corrosion. The platform legs are […]
